Description

This pin is worn to honour those who died in the Battle for Chunuk Bair in 1915.

8556 New Zealanders served on the Gallipoli Peninsula. 4752 were wounded, many more than once. 2779 died, including 10 nurses. 252 were buried at sea. 1669 have no known grave.
In August 1915, for a brief time the New Zealander held the highest point on Gallipoli - Chunuk Bair. The Chunuk Bair memorial records the names of 852 men who fell in the battle and who have no known grave.
By December, in the most successful single operation of the campaign the Allies evacuate Gallipoli, The Anzac can't help feeling they were deserting their dead comrades.

We Will Remember Them.Â
