This beautiful 3D-printed Hei Tiki is made by Kereama Taepa - Te Arawa, Te Äti Awa. Kereama's Hei Tiki silhouette designs are inspired by pop culture of the 1970s and 80s and combine whakarei (surface embellishments) based on traditional MÄori carving designs.
Kereama is a multidisciplinary artist, currently based in Papamoa, Bay of Plenty. Kereama has a Master of MÄori Visual Arts from Toioho ki Äpiti, Massey University.
His work explores themes of digital culture and its impact on MÄori culture - and how MÄori can use technology to further serve the generations of the future. His work utilizes emergent technologies such as projection, 3D printing, augmented reality and virtual reality to tell narratives of the past and the present.Â
Kereama has exhibited and sold his work both locally and internationally and his work can be found in collections abroad and locally including the Auckland War Memorial Museum. He is the recipient of several art awards and commissioned public works can be found in Tauranga, New Plymouth, Kapiti Coast, and Wellington.
