This adorable Ruru ceramic wall art  was hand-made by Adele and Richard who create ceramic works from their Auckland based studio, Borrowed Earth.

The native morepork is known for its haunting, melancholic call. The Māori name 'ruru' reflects this sound. They are found forests throughout mainland New Zealand and offshore island.

Borrowed Earth started back in the '90s. Adele was between jobs when Mum taught her how to pot. Eventually Dad gave in and his garage became her studio. Then Richard came along. Back then he was a telecommunication technician and Adele was selling work at local markets, eventually Richard become the other half of Borrowed Earth.

Now well established with a range of designs, Adele and Richard take pride in creating new ways to share their unique view of the world, honouring their Māori, Pacific and English heritage.
